ARCHITECTURE

I’m a registered Maine Architect with knowledge of building codes, construction systems, permitting, as well as a love for design. My background spans numerous small roles in large commercial projects and leading roles in smaller commercial and residential projects. I’d be happy to help you plan out your dream vacation home, evaluate the feasibility of a small commercial project, or monitor a construction project in progress.

PASSIVE HOUSE DESIGN

What is a Passive House? It’s a “best in class” energy efficient house or building, as certified by the Passive House standard. This type of building uses significantly less energy for heating, which saves not only money but also reduces one’s carbon footprint. By upgrading the walls and windows for maximum thickness, insulation, and airtightness, you end up with a thermos-like building that retains its heat. Advanced ventilation systems are put in place for upgraded indoor air quality and recovery of ventilated heat via a heat exchanger. The heating system can often be reduced to a minimal size as the heating demand is significantly smaller.

ABOUT ME

I currently practice both residential and commercial architecture on the maine coast, focusing on Portland ME. I have been working on a variety of residential projects on Peaks Island recently, as well as contributing to a number of larger commercial projects such as banks, office buildings, multi-family housing, and retail fit-ups in Portland and the adjoining communities.

I was born in Maine, the son of a lobsterman. I’ve always loved the sea. Modernism speaks to me, but it’s been tempered over time by more and more exposure to the Maine historical vernacular.

I have a master’s degree in Architecture from Syracuse University, as well as an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
